With the grace of the Almighty Creator and the support of believers across Canada and beyond, the Islamic Humanitarian Service (IHS) is pleased to announce that the Masjid and multi-purpose Islamic Centre in the Kitchener-Waterloo area is nearing completion.

 

Those who have had the opportunity to visit know that the main structure has been built, most of the interior work is nearly complete, and the parking lot has been fully paved and marked. While many of the major components are in place, a number of finishing touches remain. The IHS team is working diligently towards completing the project by the end of December 2025, Insha’Allah.

 

Alhamdulillah, through generous donations and interest-free loans from local Mu’mineen, we have raised approximately $6 million CAD out of the total $7.2 million CAD needed — a figure that includes the cost of the 3.4-acre property.

To avoid paying interest and engaging in bank loans, we have relied entirely on community support. This has been a challenging journey, and now, with only $1.2 million remaining, we are reaching out once again for your assistance. You may also dedicate a brick, square foot, classroom, or special area in memory of a loved one as an ongoing source of reward (thawāb jāriyah).

About the New Centre

This centre will be the first Masjid for Muslim Shi’as in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. It will also serve as the international headquarters of the Islamic Humanitarian Service. The building will include:

• Mortuary facilities to serve the community

• A fully functional kitchen

• A children’s play and activity area

• A shop with essential religious items

• Classrooms on the lower level to accommodate a full-time academic school and weekend religious classes.

 

This new Centre is expected to serve the spiritual, educational, and communal needs of the region for generations to come.

Additional Information
IHS has ijazah (permission) from most leading Marājiʿ to utilize a portion of Sahm al-Imam (ʿa) towards this and other charitable IHS projects.
